My view is that this is likely motivated by the China Hawks fearing the solidification of the Russo-Chinese alliance.
In the event of an escalation of US-China hostilities the US will benefit greatly from a neutral Russia, and won’t want resources tied up in Ukraine.
Additionally I think the Zionists fear the unrestraining of Russia’s support and influence with the Iranians and Syrians.
The war in Ukraine will end in Washington-Moscow negotiations, Ukraine’s strength is entirely dependent upon Washington and Moscow’s fears are entirely directed at US/NATO.
The US will have to make a trade-off somewhere unless it wants to face a potential 3 front engagement to defend the status quo, and I don’t think Washington has the ability to go on all 3 fronts and win.
For the American Right, as Trump’s recent comments demonstrate, it seems that concessions to Russia in Ukraine are seen as the least bad option for making that trade-off
